Bournemouth’s Christmas Secrets

Discover ‘Bournemouth’s Christmas Secrets’ on a guided walk with Hattie Miles. You will hear some intriguing stories related to the town: the first in-store Father Christmas, a famous Victorian pantomime star, Christmas letters from a favourite author and more. There’ll be seasonal readings and a bit of drama too and, of course, our route will take us past some of the festive decorations and window displays around the town.

We meet at the cosy Hotel Miramar, E Overcliff Dr, BH1 3AL … find Hattie at reception … buses stop at the top of Bath Hill (a short walk from the hotel). The hotel’s free car park entrance is in Grove Road or you can park on street (metred).

Fun on Christmas morning 2017 for charity swimmers near Boscombe Pier: photo Hattie Miles

Be prepared: this walk will include a sloping path down to Bournemouth promenade  and some steps with a good rail. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and dressing appropriately for the weather and you may want to bring some water to drink on the way. Walkers can park in the carpark at the rear of the hotel, just let reception know you are there … there are also bus stops nearby. The walk lasts approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.

Take your mind off the General Election guided walk

Take your mind off the General Election on a guided walk with Hattie Miles … the aim is for a bit of fun to distract us from the election shenanigans. What better place to be than beautiful Boscombe with its clifftop pathways and stunning beaches. As its December the walk route will be a bit weather dependant, but I hope we can get down to Boscombe Pier to hear some quirky stories about this historic landmark.

Friday morning 6th December … 11am start

Monday morning 9th December … 11am start

Be prepared: this walk includes some slopes and steps. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and dressing appropriately for the weather and you may want to bring a cane or stick. There is plenty of on-road parking in the area. Please do not use the car park at the Shelley as, in the daytime, it is for use of the medical centre there. Various buses take you to stops on Christchurch Road, a ten minute stroll away from the Shelley Theatre along Crabton Close Road or Chessel Avenue. The café is open from 10.30am to 3.30pm and serves light refreshments, good coffee and yummy cakes. You are welcome bring your dogs on the walk (the café is dog friendly). The guided walk lasts approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
