The Language of Colour guided walk

Join Hattie Miles for a guided walk to celebrate Autumn – enjoy the colours of the season as we walk through Bournemouth’s beautiful Gardens. Find out about the town’s incredible tree collection, hear a few appropriate readings and discover how the English language has embraced descriptions of our country’s multitude of hues. You’ll also find out a little local history.

Saturday morning 9th November, starting at 11.00am.

We meet outside Café Erte, 19 Queen’s Road, Westbourne, BH2 6BA

Price £6 (over sixties and students £5).

These circular walks last approximately one-and-three-quarter hours.  No need to book, just turn up!

Be prepared: this moderate walk includes some slopes and paths and can be slippery. I recommend wearing comfortable and reasonably sturdy footwear and dressing appropriately for the weather. You may want to bring a trekking pole or stick. NB: there is a large council pay car park almost opposite Café Erte and there is some on-street parking nearby. There are bus stops on Queen’s Road and Poole Road, just a short walk from the café.

Café Erte is where Platform 19 café used to be. You can enjoy refreshments there before and/or after the walk. It has a good menu, nice coffee and yummy cakes. Well behaved dogs are welcome at the café

History & Horrors: a Boscombe Journey

‘History & Horrors: a Boscombe Journey’ is a circular guided walk with Hattie Miles that will take you from Shelley Manor to the sea. We’ll discover the area’s connections to the Shelley family, hear tales of characters created by famous authors with local connections and uncover some of Boscombe’s past and hidden secrets.

Tuesday morning 22nd October, starting at 11am.

Price: £6 (over sixties and students £5) … No need to book, just turn up!

Meet outside the Shelley Theatre café in Beechwood Avenue, Boscombe, BH5 1LX ready for an 11am start (The café is open from 10.30am – 3.30pm and serves good coffee, yummy cakes and light lunches).

Be prepared: this walk includes a sloping path down to Boscombe promenade plus a walk up a zigzag path, and a few steps with a good rail. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes and dressing appropriately for the weather and you may want to bring some water to drink on the way. There is plenty of on-road parking in the area. Please do not use the car park at the Shelley as, in the daytime, it is for use of the medical centre there. Various buses take you to stops on Christchurch Road, a ten minute stroll away from the Shelley Theatre along Crabton Close Road or Chessel Avenue. The café is open from 10.30am to 3.30pm and serves light refreshments, good coffee and yummy cakes. AND the café has just introduced doggy ice-cream to it’s menu … so if you bring your dogs on the walk they can have a treat too!! The guided walk lasts approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
